Thinking Strategically about Today’s Changing Value Propositions
Strategic management entails the ability to anticipate events, envision possibilities, maintain flexibility, and empower others to change. It is a process that is continually in flux. This session will focus on the business conditions that both create and diminish value in the marketplace. Participants will evaluate a set of strategic frameworks to assist them in addressing the changing value propositions in our turbulent economy.
Marketing/Finance Interface
From a marketing perspective, finance plays three critical roles in the value creation process: gatekeeper, performance monitor and supply chain partner. It is an essential responsibility of senior management to thoroughly understand the nature and impact of these different roles on the creation of the organization's unique differential advantage in the marketplace. Participants will explore the marketing/finance interface from the perspective of "finance as a necessary partner in the value creation process."
Value Driver: Operations Strategy and Supply Chain Management for Finance Managers
Critical financial thinking about operations strategy and supply chain management is essential for building a sustainable competitive advantage in a global economy. This session provides strategic insights for finance leaders in these two areas, including issues related to capacity planning, plant locations, outsourcing, off-shoring, and vertical integration.
Value Driver: Optimal Capital Structure and Cost of Funds
In these times of financial stress, companies are both reviewing their financial leverage as well as redefining their company’s value at risk. In this session, participants will define leverage and the appropriate metrics for determining an “optimal” financial structure. Value at risk metrics will also be discussed and evaluated.
Opportunities and Risks in International Business
The effective management of corporate assets and liabilities in an international setting requires a different mindset and evaluation process than in the domestic arena. Participants will develop the capacity to better utilize the tools of risk management with exogenous variables like political risk. Effective asset and liability management is done within an organizational model for project design and implementation outside the domestic arena while using these tools.
